Profile
Richard McCaffrey is a CEDR accredited Mediator and a trained adjudicator with a Masters degree in construction law and arbitration. He is also a trained Adjudicator with ICE and has a certificate in Mediation from Harvard Law. He has acted as expert witness at arbitrations involving contamination and contractual issues and is a chartered civil engineer, project manager and water and environmental manager with over 30 years’ experience working across the built, natural and social environment.
During his extensive career Richard has been engaged on a variety of projects and framework contracts up to £1.5 billion in value spanning education, healthcare, infrastructure, regeneration, energy, commercial property and international aid funded programmes for social and economic reform in developing economies. As former Chief Operating Officer of a large international multi-disciplined support service Plc with over 3000 staff, he contributed to a major growth phase taking the company into Ireland, Eastern Europe, Russia and Southern Africa which included commercial transactions and international acquisitions valued in excess of £100m.
He has considerable international experience and now provides expert project management and dispute resolution services on a range of World Bank and EU funded Infrastructure projects in Tanzania in addition to being a commercial mediator on the panel of the Association of Northern Mediators, the ICE panel of Conciliators & Construction Mediators and a member of the Civil Mediation Council.
Mediation Style
Richard has strong negotiating skills with an engaging and collaborative style drawing on a wealth of knowledge in dealing with employment disputes, negotiating contractual and commercial claims and resolving transactional settlements.
